How (NOT) To Give A Technical Talk

Thursday 20th September 7:00pm at Plant NOMA

This month we have John Cleary with "How (NOT) To Give A Technical Talk". It'll be a great talk for many of us who are new to speaking in public about tech or for those of us who haven't done it very often. Your lesson begins this Thursday at Plant NOMA!

About the talk

There are two hard problems in public speaking; deciding what to speak about, delivery and out by one errors.

The barrier to entry is fairly low, yet many of us overlook this wonderful opportunity to share our knowledge & experiences, not to mention the opportunity to grow as individuals. During this talk we'll take a light-hearted look at the "art" of public speaking. What are the do's and don'ts? And what do the event-going public want to hear you talk about anyway?

A healthy mix of fun and education (like the cool supply teacher* filling in for the last two weeks of term), we'll explore such deep topics as "jargon" and "bullet points". You'll laugh, you'll cry, and if it all goes well, you may even learn something.

About the speaker

When not talking about himself in the third person, John splits his time between coding, talking about code and deciding what to eat for lunch. John is the co-founder of Createk, so from time to time has to 'do sales'.

  • It should be noted that John is no way close to being as cool as a supply teacher.

The location

Plant NOMA The Redfern Building, Dantzic Street, Manchester, M4 4AH.
